Abstract

Heading for New Shores? Writing the Federal Republic’s History in 2009
This article discusses new publications on the history of the Federal Republic, focussing on the historiographical productions on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the West German state. It reviews recent works under the perspective of narratives presented, and methodological innovations. Research on contemporary history covers post-war developments as well as most recent social, cultural, and political trends. Yet, historiography has not yet solved the problem of integrating the history of East and West Germany; in dealing with global developments, it has neglected postcolonial approaches.
