Abstract
Central Questions of global justice against the backdrop of the current refugee crisis
Two main currents can be roughly distinguished within the academic discussion on global justice:
one is characterised by an interactional cosmopolitan moral conception and emphasizes the individual
duty of the wealthy to aid those in extreme need, wherever and whoever they may be. In contrast,
the second stream of thought emphasizes the impact of global institutions on the increasing disparity
between rich and poor nations and regards global justice as an institutional issue.
The current article presents the main arguments of both positions and suggests a pragmatic moral
approach close to the institutional interpretation against the backdrop of the current refugee crisis.
