Stefan Ihrig: The Armenian Genocide and Germany – New Research and Approaches

Abstract

Germany has a special relationship with the Armenian Genocide, stemming from its World-War-I
alliance with the Ottoman Empire. A variety of factors have led to a rather paradoxical situation
when it comes to Germany and the Armenian Genocide. While internationally the overall state of the
research has advanced greatly in recent years, Germany seems to lack behind. This article surveys
recent contributions and seeks to place them within the overall developments and trends.
