Civic education and its scientific and didactical aspects. A critical review of the state of the art.

This essay deals with recent developments in civic education in Germany. It also raises issues in regards to its scientific and didactical foundations. The author examines the impact of social sciences,
especially political sciences, on the training of teachers and critically examines the empirical research
conducted in the field of political didactis. Thus, the essay ends with a critical reevaluation of curricula
and textbooks in areas as diverse as competence as an educational objective, output analysis, and the
political influence on political didactis. Finally, the essay highlights fields for further research.
