Richard J. Evans: The German Foreign Office and the Nazi Past

Debate on "The Office and the Past"

The renowned British historian Richard Evans, Regius Professor of History and President of Wolfson College at the University of Cambridge, sits in an essay for the "Neue Politische Literatur" with the debate on "The Office and the Past" apart. Evans' main goal is to return the now highly emotionally charged debate on a scientific level. So he sits down in the "Neue Politische Literatur" in stresses objective manner on the one hand with the methods, arguments and results of the band apart, on the other hand, with the following publication controversy in the history of science, in the arts section and in sections of the public. Special emphasis given to the essay by Evans' perspective from the outside: Without even a 'school', a tradition of German historiography to belong or to be a political-journalistic stock attributable to the British historian can deal impartially with this latest chapter of German past.

Evans' essay is in "Neue Politische Literatur" Vol 56 (2011), H. 2 released. You can read it online for free and download:
