About this Journal (short version)

The "Neue Politische Literatur" reports on research related to modern German, European, and non-European history (19th–20th century), as well as on research in the fields of theory-based and historically oriented political science. Special attention is paid to power and supremacy, to forms of inequality, and to dictatorial and authoritarian regimes. The "Neue Politische Literatur" concerns itself with questions about democracy in the past, the present, and the future.

The "Neue Politische Literatur" helps to guide readers through the multitude of new publications and thus also contributes to ensuring academic quality. This is achieved through critical evaluations of individual research projects, of research fields, and of research trends. The high quality of the "Neue Politische Literatur" is guaranteed through active acquisition of contributions from recognized authors, through peer reviewing, and through intensive editorial assistance for contributors.

The "Neue Politische Literatur" identifies established and emerging research fields. It publishes essays that critique crucial contributions as well as reviews of current literature that reflect the multiple facets of discourse in the fields. Comprehensive review essays are one of the characteristic features of the "Neue Politische Literatur". They provide not only a survey of a particular research field but also a personal contribution to the current debate. Essays that deal with emerging fields also appear at regular intervals. They are critical evaluations of the potential of newly developing topic areas and draw on both monographs and research publications. The "Neue Politische Literatur" also occasionally publishes interviews with important researchers.
