Contribution Types

Neue Politische Literatur provides guidance on the current state of research in contemporary history, political theory and the history of ideas.

We publish the following types of articles:

Review Essays (50,000–80,000 characters): Based on the current literature, proven experts on the subject present the current state of research. Specific questions and debates are often placed at the centre of the presentation—without losing sight of the entire field of research.

Emerging Field Essay (50,000–80,000 characters): An expert in the field summarises current research on a recent field of research on which few monographs have been published. Our editorial board decides on the classification as an "emerging field".

Essay on History Politics (25,000–50,000 characters): In this genre, recognised experts report on the politics of memory of a particular region or country and critically evaluate the events.

Essay (25,000–50,000 characters): A book or a few key books are discussed in a concise and pointed manner and contextualised within the field of research.

Single Review (4,500–6,000 characters): Authors critically evaluate individual books in a concise manner.

All contributions are subject to an editorial review process; the first three types of contributions are also subject to a double-blind peer review (see information on the review process).
