AI Policy

Neue Politische Literatur bases its AI policy on the guidelines of COPE and DFG.

For authors:

In principle, NPL permits the use of AI for formatting and proofreading prior to submission. Any further use of AI, such as for creating abstracts, assisting with text structure and drafting, translation or data processing, is permitted but must be declared upon submission, detailing the specific use and the tools utilised. You can refer to the STM's Classifications of AI Activities for guidance. However, please note the restrictions on the use of AI in our journal described above.

Your independent interpretative and/or analytical work and your ‘scholarly voice’ must be preserved and evident in every contribution.

For peer reviewers:

In line with the DFG guidelines, the use of AI in the preparation of peer reviews for the NPL is excluded.

The editorial team reserves the right to use AI checkers if there are grounds for suspicion. The editorial team undertakes not to edit texts entrusted to it using AI without the author's consent. Communication with authors or peer reviewers that contains AI elements will be identified as such.
